Billy Marrows

Band

about

The Billy Marrows Band brings together several of the UK’s most exciting improvisers to explore Billy’s unique, boundary-pushing compositions. The listener is drawn into a musical world of light and dark, chaos and calm, joy and mystery, where events don’t always unfold as you might expect.

BIOG

The Billy Marrows Band’s vibrantly melodic, groovy and expressive music explores the relationship between improvised and composed music, generating a fertile playground for these highly creative musicians. Their music incorporates grooves from across the globe and takes inspiration from many genres, including contemporary jazz, funk, progressive jazz and classical. The band played their debut gig in 2019 at the first night of Angus Bayley’s Process concert series at SET in Dalston Junction, during which Billy was interviewed about the thought processes behind the music, and have since played at venues such as the Vortex and the Green Note in the 2019 London Jazz Festival.

The band recently did a run of dates culminating in a live recording at the Vortex Jazz Club and the recording of their studio debut Dancing on Bentwood Chairs, to be released in 2024.
